Somewhere between week 8 and week 12 of training, every first marathoner has the same realization: the race is the victory lap. The training block is the marathon.

The only three rules that matter

Fueling is a trainable skill

Marathon fueling fails more races than fitness does. Practice taking carbs during runs over 90 minutes, and practice drinking to a plan. Splashdown exists for exactly these mornings: long, sweaty, and electrolyte-expensive. Daily protein keeps the legs rebuilding between sessions; the calculator sets the number and the block will make you hungry enough to hit it.

Strength: the insurance policy

One short lifting session a week, calves, glutes, hinges, cuts injury risk meaningfully in run training. Twenty minutes from the Strength track. Marathoners who skip it tend to meet their physical therapist by week 10 instead.

Pair the block with a plan

Conditioning track for the engine, one strength day for the chassis.
