The run club survival guide

You joined for the 5K. You stayed for the people. Now Tuesday is sacred and your calves have opinions. Here is how to keep showing up all season.
The run club paradox
Run clubs fix the hardest problem in fitness, which is showing up, and create a new one, which is that everyone runs the social pace whether or not it is their easy pace. If every run leaves you flattened, you are racing weekly without noticing.
- Make club night your quality day. Run it honest, enjoy the pack.
- Make your solo runs genuinely easy. Full sentences, not gasps. The base gets built in the boring miles.
- Add one strength session. Thirty minutes. Squat, hinge, calves, carries. Runners who lift stay runners longer.
Fueling the week
Three things cover most run club humans:
- Protein, daily. Recovery is built at dinner, not at the finish line. Target your range with the calculator. Workhorse Whey exists for the days food does not cooperate.
- Fluids and electrolytes for the long stuff. Runs over an hour, hot evenings, double days: Splashdown territory. A 40 minute social jog needs water and maybe a snack.
- Sleep, guarded jealously. Late runs plus late screens is how streaks die. Re-Entry Sleep is our formula for the wind-down, and the free version is a boring bedtime. Both work better together.
A season, not a sprint
The runners still around in month six are not the fastest ones from week one. They are the ones who recovered on purpose. Our Conditioning track slots around a weekly club night without stealing its fun.
